What Coatings Crystallenses Offer?

At CrystalLenses we offer a variety of coatings these include:

HARDCOATED- Hardcoat lenses are generally more durable than untreated lenses, helping to prolong the lifespan of the eyewear. This lens just provides and extra layer of hard coating to withstand minor damage and abrasions (NO LENSES ARE SCRATCH PROOF).

ANTIGLARE, MAR, ANTI-REFLECTIVE- Antiglare lenses, also known as anti-reflective (AR)or anti-reflection lenses, are eyeglass lenses that have a special coating applied to their surface. This coating helps to reduce glare from reflections on the lens surface, which can cause eyestrain and discomfort, especially in environments with bright lights or when using digital screens.

BLUE-LIGHT- This is a better version than your standard antiglare, as it served similar purposes from protecting your eyes when using digital screens. This lens also blocks harmful light emitted by artificial light and improves your quality of sleep believe it or not.

EASYCLEAN- both are very similar lens types: Easy clean are made to repel water, oils, and grease, making them easier to maintain and clean. Similarly, both lenses may also feature anti-static coatings to reduce the attraction of dust and dirt.

TRANSITIONS, PHOTOCHROMIC- Transition lenses are clear indoors or in low-light conditions, but when exposed to sunlight, they darken to provide protection against bright light and UV rays. Transition lenses provide comfort and convenience by eliminating the need to switch between regular eyeglasses and sunglasses. They adjust to the lighting conditions, allowing you to move seamlessly between indoor and outdoor environments without you having to squint and strain your eyes.

ULTRACHROMIC- UltraChromic lenses are specialized optical lenses that change color in response to UV (ultraviolet) light exposure. They are a type of photochromic lens, meaning they can darken when exposed to sunlight and return to a clear or nearly clear state when the light diminishes. The key difference between UltraChromic and other photochromic lenses lies in their advanced technology, which  offer improved performance in areas such as speed of transition, darkness achieved, and clarity when not exposed to UV light. (ONLY APLLIES TO VARIFOCAL LENSES).

XTRACTIVE- Xtractive lenses darken more in outdoor sunlight compared to regular photochromic lenses, offering greater protection against bright light and glare. The slight indoor tint and ability to darken further outdoors add a stylish touch to the lenses, making them appealing to those who want a fashionable look.

POLARISED- Polarized lenses have a special filter that blocks intense, horizontal reflected light, reducing glare from surfaces such as water, snow, glass, or roads. This makes them ideal for outdoor activities like driving, boating, skiing, and fishing. By reducing glare, polarized lenses can enhance visual clarity and improve contrast, helping you see more clearly in bright, sunny conditions.

TINTS- These allow you to add colour to your lenses. At CrystalLenses we have a range of colour options from which customers can choose from. Please note this service is our in-house service as we tint ourselves, so they are limitations on some colours of how dark it can get. (Tint colour options: Grey, brown, green, blue, yellow, orange & pink).

WHAT COATING WOULD BEST SUIT MY NEEDS?

SINGLE VISION:READING (SHORT DISTANCE)

For customers who wear reading glasses, an anti-reflective coating is highly recommended. This coating reduces glare from screens and artificial lighting, enhancing visual comfort and clarity. It helps in reducing eye strain, especially during prolonged reading sessions under varied lighting conditions. Additionally, an AR coating makes the lenses more aesthetically pleasing by minimizing reflections, allowing others to see your eyes clearly. This coating also generally includes a layer that resists smudges and makes the lenses easier to clean, further enhancing the user experience for reading glasses wearers. However, the blue light coating, also known as a blue light filter or blue light blocking coating, offers additional benefits beyond a standard anti-reflective (AR) coating. While both coatings reduce glare and reflections, a blue light coating specifically targets the harmful blue light emitted by digital screens and artificial lighting sources. Blue light is known to contribute to digital eye strain, disrupt sleep patterns, and potentially cause long-term eye health issues.

SINGLE VISION:DISTANCE (LONG DISTANCE)

For everyday use, people who need distance glasses can benefit from a combination of lens coatings. An anti-reflective coating is highly advantageous as it reduces glare from sunlight and artificial lighting, enhancing visual clarity and reducing eye strain during daily activities such as driving, working, or socializing. Additionally, a hard coat coating helps to protect the lenses from minor scratches and abrasions that can occur during regular wear, ensuring long-lasting durability and maintaining optical quality. Together, these coatings provide optimal vision and comfort for everyday use, ensuring that wearers of distance glasses experience clear, crisp vision in various lighting conditions while maintaining the integrity of their lenses over time.
